USDBF Board of Directors and their Officers

Over the years I have served on many non-profit boards as a Board of Director and as I gain experience as an officer. I do this because I like to help organization do their best. Recently I saw posts on the internet about the USDBF and how their officers were not handling a situation correctly. […]

www.facebook.com/110872425671482/posts/3522996307792393/Team Selection - Not for the Faint Hearted!Team selection is always very difficult and you are never going to please everyone, but at least in a dragon boat team you get more chances to be selected than in other sports due to the large team size. Is there a magic formulae? It all needs to start with what the Club is aiming to do for the year. This may be just taking part in all regattas for fun and exercise or it might be you want to win at all costs. There is always a fine balance between keeping everyone in the club happy and putting out the strongest team that is going to win. Once a Coach knows the focus for the year or an event then crew selection becomes 'slightly’ easier.Crew selection could be based on a number of criteria:• Fastest paddle machine or 01 times • Strongest with lifting weights• Ability to paddle in time with the rest of the crew• Technique ability• Training attendance • Weight to balance the boat• Who are the better team players• Pulling names out of a hat!As paddlers we should know our own individual strengths and weaknesses in terms of physical strength, fitness, weight and age. We don’t always get in life what we want! The Coach is trying to get a balanced boat which has good timing and rhythm; all things which lead to good boat speed. This may mean we don’t get the side we want to paddle on, we don’t get the seat we want to sit on, but personally I would rather be in a team than sitting on the side line! ... See MoreSee Less

  • 13 Brutal Truths About Dragon Boating No One Wants to Admit
Dragon boating is a bit like a a cult. A good one, but nonetheless it is cult-like. And because of that, there are some truths that just aren’t spoken about enough. When I was brand-new to the sport, I wish someone had told me all of this. Not that it all would have sunk in […]
  • 15 Questions About My Fitness and Workout Routine
I recently read a nutrition blog post where the author answered a series of questions about her nutrition and wellness routine. It inspired me to think about my own answers to the same type of questions relating to my own fitness and workout routine, so I thought I’d share them with you. 1. What’s your […]
  • The Twelve Days of Christmas, Paddler-Style
I thought about making a video of this for you, but I can’t carry a tune even if it were placed in a bucket with a superbly sturdy handle. So I decided to spare you all the horrors of my voice and simply post my paddler version of the Twelve Days of Christmas. Happy Holidays […]
  • Holiday Shopping Guide for Dragon Boaters – 2018 Edition
It’s that time of year again (doesn’t it seem like this year went by WAY too fast?!?!). So right about now your friends and family are asking you what you’d like as a gift for the holiday season. Instead of getting some awful sweater from your Great Aunt Mildred or a bunch of other useless […]
  • 6 Tips for Making Your Winter Training More Bearable
Winter training just started for my team and, I have to admit, I felt like I had lost my “mojo”. While I love my team and I love paddling, somehow having a break during the month of October didn’t seem like enough this year. Sure, I went to the gym and rowed on the erg […]
